The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a significant prize-giving event nears, you'll find an outcry to include fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications successfully include many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience rivals famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
